+66% Chinese Tourists to Israel

According to China Daily, Israel is becoming a Popular Country for Chinese travellers.

Cooperation With Chinese Governement

Israel is interested in improving cooperation with China to attract more Chinese tourists to the Jewish nation, a senior Israeli tourism official told Xinhua in a recent interview.

Amir Halevi, director general of the Ministry of Tourism, praised the growing tourism between Israel and China for serving as a “cultural bridge between the two countries.”

“Incoming tourism from China makes a significant and growing contribution to the Israeli economy, particularly in the hotel and hospitality industries, attractions and shops,” Halevi said.

Israel continues its cooperation with Chinese partners to take advantage of the Chinese market, he promised.

Recent years have witnessed a sharp increase in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Israel.

64,600 Chinese tourists in Israel

A total of 64,600 Chinese tourists have visited Israel in the first seven months of 2017, 66 percent more than in the same period last year and 130 percent since 2015, according to the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, which expects the number of Chinese tourists to Israel reach 100,000 in 2017.

Many Chinese tourists perceive Israel as a mysterious and exotic destination, attracted by, among other things, Jewish culture, the sacred site of three great religions, Israel’s technological innovation and the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth.

There are also many Chinese business delegations visiting Israel each year to learn more about Israel’s technological innovation and seek collaboration or alliances with its Israeli counterparts in many areas, he said.

A series of direct flights from China to Israel have helped boost the influx of Chinese tourists to the Jewish state.

Israeli Airline

The Israeli airline is located in Tel Aviv and the cities of Beijing and Hong Kong, while Hainan Airlines from China operates flights from Beijing and Shanghai to Tel Aviv. In addition, Cathay Pacific Airways offers flights from Hong Kong to Tel Aviv.

The policy that Israel offers 10-year multiple-entry visas to Chinese is also an important factor in attracting more Chinese tourists to Israel, according to Halevi.

Halevi said his ministry spared no effort to build Israel’s tourism brand for Chinese tourists.

It has improved its tourist infrastructure to meet the specific needs of Chinese travelers, such as employing more Chinese speaking tour guides, and increasing signage and tourism translated into Chinese.

In the recent visit to China by Israeli tourism minister Yariv Levin, Halevi said that this led to a better understanding in the Israeli tourism ministry and the main players in the Chinese tourism industry.

“We are working to promote Israel as a tourist destination and an insurance and a good example of how to reach a long term,” Halevi said.

There are many opportunities to enhance collaboration between Israel and China, “not only commercially but also a governmental level to promote bilateral tourism,” he added.
